What About Existing Diesel Burners??
Large numbers of barns with fuel oil burners continue to be used to cure tobacco throughout the flue cured production area. Recent data from cured leaf samples indicates these heat exchanger equiped barns can result in desirable levels of TSNA.
Early plans for testing heated air from existing fuel oil heat exchangers were based on the assumption that an affordable, field operational meter could be acquired for analysis of NOx gases in the curing barn. However, available technology is not adequate for field analysis of these compounds at these low levels. At present, testing of cured leaf samples is the only available means for determining resulting TSNA levels from all types of heat exchangers.
Orginal fuel oil heat exchanger models were not solid welded and have the potential for leaking combustion gases in the curing chamber. Current models are solid welded.
